Reflections on a Vocational Happenstance
"Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius." - Pietro Aretino (1492-1556)
This morning's quote offers a sweet sentiment for Valentine's Day,
but I feel it only fair to point out that the current temperature in Aretino's native Venice, Italy is 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Chilly, sure, but nothing to rival the bitter 4 degrees we have here in Brooklyn.
I just checked the temperature in Hobart, NY, where my friend Solveig lives. Twenty degrees below Zero right now, with a predicted high of 6! There's nothing lovable about such punishing cold.
It does warm my heart, however, to see this photo Solveig sent last night. To walk the puppy, she layered handmade wool ear warmer over handmade wool hat -- both Jules Wrenne creations from years ago. There could be no better Valentine's gift for me. <3
